Course Information:

Let’s face it: Historical fiction can be a challenging genre to write. Sure, research is essential in writing anything historical, but there is a lot more to writing about the past than just research.

It begins with characters and getting their mannerisms, speech, and lifestyle just right. Those characters who lived with no television, cell phones, or even computers. How did people manage?

And how much can you “get creative” and deviate from actual history?

If you’re diving into this genre for the first time, or currently “in the trenches” and feeling a bit overwhelmed, this course is for you. Gold-level instructor, Deanna Adams, will guide you and weave your story back to an authentic, yet fictional, past.

Week One:

We will touch on bestselling historical novels that are popular today, and break down what works in them, so that you can apply it to your own work. Also, tips on research will be covered.

Week Two:

We’ll focus on how to weave and marry the real facts with the made up, and how to know what to put in and what to leave out when it comes to all that you've researched (you don’t have to, nor should you, use it all but you should know it all).

Week Three:

We’ll dive in deep into dialogue, scenes, and other important details that fit your characters and particular era.

Week Four:

We will bring together all these aspects and literary elements that will make your historical novel a must read.

*There will be “homework” and exercises each week, that will be optional but encouraged, to get the most out of this course.
