D. Wilk is currently enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts program at Southern New Hampshire University pursuing her passion for fiction creative writing. She writes Contemporary Fiction, Romantic Suspense and Erotica. Her current novel in progress, The Orchid Bloom falls gently under the categories of each of these genres. As a disabled veteran, survivor, mom and wife, D. writes from the passion of her heart, mind and soul. Formerly a motivational speaker, D. spoke to audiences in excess of 1,000 members. But after a reoccurring injury resulted in a life changing surgery and a permanent disability D. found herself in a wheel chair with limited mobility and independence. It was in that chair and during months of therapy that D. rediscovered her passion for writing. She had always loved writing, even in grade school. Overseas in Iraq and other duty assignments she was never without a pen and stacks of notebooks. She’d write to escape the monotony of her reality and escape vicariously into a fictional world. It was writing that kept D. sitting still so her body could recover and heal from the surgery. Today, while D. is actively on her feet again, walking and independent from the wheel chair she still spends countless hours writing her stories of survival and determination into fictional characters that face the worst of conditions- never without a full cup of coffee and another pot brewing. D. pours much of herself and life experiences into her fictional stories, that’s what makes her writing so engaging and real. And more so therapeutic for herself. Every word you read on this blog, or someday in her books has been fully accompanied by a lot of coffee.
