Annual General Membership Meeting
Pittsburgh Airport Marriott
May 20, 2017
87 Members in attendance.
President Hilary Hauck called the meeting to order at 8:40 am and welcomes members to the annual meeting. She started with a thank you to Heather Desuta and Carol Silvis for their work on the conference.
Hilary then turned the meeting to PW Secretary Susan Gourley who presented the minutes from the 2016 general meeting to the membership and asked for a motion to accept them into the record. Jack Hillman motioned to accept the minutes and Fritz Roberts seconded the motion. The membership voted unanimously to accept the minutes. Susan informed the membership that the current meeting minutes would be posted on the Pennwriters website blog to view before next year’s meeting.
Treasurer Jackie Shaffmaster reported an approximate $87,000 now in the PW account that would shrink to about $47,000 after the conference bills are paid. She deemed the PW accounts as maintaining a healthy balance.
Election Chair David Freas thanked Mark Boerma, Terry Friedman, and the election committee for helping him with the recent PW election. He reports a 40% response overall with Area Six leading the returns with 59% and Area Three voting the least at 32%. David welcomes any suggestions from members to increase voter response. He also asked members to make sure they have a valid email address in the PW databases. The results from the election were as follows:
Susan Gourley elected as secretary
Mark Boerma elected as Area 2 Rep
Denise Weaver elected as Area 4 Rep
Suzanne Mattaboni as Area 6 Rep
As there was no old business to address, Hilary Hauck then turned to New Business starting with a brief explanation of the changes in the areas map. She emphasized that the lines are moving but members can opt to not move out of their current Area if they are in one of the affected changed locations. The new map will go into effect when membership renewals start in June.
Leslie Tobin Smeltz and Malissa Close, 2018 Conference Coordinators, gave a brief overview of next year’s conference. It will be held at the Lancaster Eden Resort as described in the ad at the back of the 2017 Conference program. Gayle Lynds will be the Friday Keynote Speaker and the Saturday Luncheon Keynote speaker will be Wende Dikec. The 2018 Conference will also see the return of the Thursday Intensives program. Stuart Horowitz will do a day long program and Bobbi Carducci will conduct a half day workshop.
Hilary asked for a motion to dismiss the meeting. Annette Dashofy motioned to dismiss. John Gastil seconded the motion. The membership voted to adjourn the meeting.Share this:
